Annual Powwow
The Paqtnkek Powwow has been a tradition in the community for over 20 years and is known as one of the oldest powwows in the Maritime provinces. It is also known to hold the largest arbor east of Quebec which is constructed with cedar. The Powwow is a huge success every year thanks to the dedication of community members who volunteer their valuable time, support from our partners and the love of our community by other Mi’kmaw friends and family from Nova Scotia, New Brunswick and Prince Edward Island.

Community Reminder: Check Your Naloxone Kits and share this post
Take a few minutes to:
• Check Expiry date
• Check if the packaging and equipment are damaged
• Know where where the kit is located and is easy to access
• Make sure you and others in your household know how to use it
What if naloxone is expired?
Expired naloxone should be replaced as soon as possible.
If an opioid overdose is happening and the only naloxone available is expired, use it while waiting for a new kit. Naloxone can lose potency after its expiry date, so additional doses may be needed, but an early dose make save a life.
Need a new kit?
The Paqtnkek Health Centre can provide you with a new naloxone kit. If your kit is expired, damaged, or has been used, contact the Health Centre for a replacement.
If you see someone experiencing a suspected opioid overdose:
Call 911 → Give naloxone → Stay with the person → Give additional doses if needed.
Please take a moment today to check your kit, know where it is, and know how to use it.
