Education

The Paqtnkek Education Department plays a significant role in our community. Our children attend local elementary, middle and high schools in Antigonish and Monastery. We also offer on-reserve programs for K-4 students and an Early Years daycare.

We have developed close relationships with the Strait Regional Centre for Education. Our mutual goal is to ensure that First Nations students benefit fully from their educational opportunities.

We thank parents, teachers and support staff for encouraging a holistic approach to education that respects Mi’kmaw history and culture.

Our most recent accomplishment is a new Alternate Education program for Mi’kmaw students attending high school. This is a unique way to further support students with more culturally-appropriate learning opportunities in a classroom right here in our community as well as in outdoor settings.
