Fisheries

The Fisheries Department for Paqtnkek is responsible for managing and conserving the aquatic resources in the community’s traditional territory. The department works to ensure sustainable fishing practices and to protect the community’s fishing rights. It may also engage in research and monitoring of fish populations and habitats, as well as community outreach and education programs to promote responsible fishing practices. Additionally, the department may collaborate with other government agencies and stakeholders to develop policies and regulations related to fisheries management.

Our initiative assists Nova Scotia seafood processing plants, aquaculture operations and fish harvesters in addressing labour market challenges in their communities by increasing the recruitment of students as employees.

Learn how high school or post-secondary student employee(s) could be eligible for a:

➡️$1,500 bursary after completing 500 hours

➡️$750 bursary after completing 250 hours

Industrial Mechanic (Millwright)
Port Hawkesbury Paper is currently seeking an individual to join our Maintenance team. This position reports to
the Maintenance Supervisor and is responsible for the preventative maintenance, repair and troubleshooting of
production equipment and plant systems.
Responsibilities:
• Equipment installation (pumps, motors, gearboxes, paper machine rolls etc.)
• Changing hydraulic and pneumatic cylinders, hoses, pumps etc.
• Replacing and tracking conveyor belts
• Troubleshooting and diagnosing problems
• Using CMMS to find/order parts, provide detailed feedback on work orders
• Willing to work overtime, after-hours call-ins and shift work as needed
Skills/Competency Requirements:
• Ability to work safely as part of a team
• Ability to work independently in a fast-paced work setting
• Attention to detail and takes pride in quality workmanship
• Knowledge of alignment of machinery and the use of laser alignment equipment
• Strong problem solving and communication abilities
• Excellent organizational and time management skills
• Proficient computer skills. Experience using a CMMS considered an asset
Experience/Education Requirements:
• Millwright Certificate of Trade – Red Seal
• A minimum of 5 years’ recent millwright experience in a heavy industrial manufacturing environment
• Welding and machining experience considered an asset
• Proficiency in hydraulic and pneumatic troubleshooting would be considered an asset
• Experience in maintenance is required
Compensation:
Pay rate per Collective Agreement. Port Hawkesbury Paper offers competitive compensation with a comprehensive
