Health Centre
The Paqtnkek Health Centre opened in 2008. This $1.3M multi-purpose facility delivers more than health programs to the community. There is a board room available for booking that can be divided into two areas for meetings, classrooms and private functions. The board room comfortably seats up to thirty people. When divided into two spaces, each room can accommodate up to fifteen people privately. Polycom videoconferencing and wireless internet are on site along with a projection screen for laptop presentations to help promote any organizations’ message clearly.
On site kitchen facilities are another prime feature of the facility. Catering services can be booked as well and easily provided on site. Contact Juliana Julian or Patricia Prosper to book a space for your next function.
Healthcare Services
A variety of community health promotion, education and prevention programming are successfully delivered to the community at this bright, culturally distinct, inviting building Monday through Friday.
Dr. Steeves, a family practice physician is available the second Tuesday of each month to anyone who wishes to access health care and a pediatrician cares for the youngest patients on a referral basis. Dr. Sajiev, Dental Therapist, offers appointments for dental services three days per week. A registered nurse is on site Monday through Friday providing immunizations, home health care and pre-natal instruction to anyone in need.
Additional professional service personnel visit the Paqtnkek Health Centre regularly offering services such as foot care, clinical therapy and even acupuncture. Community members have access to legal support personnel, social and family support workers and a field worker from the Native Alcohol and Drug Abuse Counselling Association is available to deliver services.

Please welcome Paqtnkek's new EMO Director, Jerron Hawley!
"My name is Jerron Hawley, I am from Port Hood located on the western coast of Cape Breton. I spent 13 years living in Fort McMurray, Alberta, working as a career Firefighter and Primary Care Paramedic, where I developed a deep understanding of emergency response, preparedness, and community safety.
Beyond my professional experience, I’m a grateful husband and father of two children. I have a deep passion for continuous learning, helping others, and making a meaningful impact. In my free time, I enjoy coaching sports, staying active, and embracing progress in both personal and professional growth.
I look forward to collaborating to enhance emergency preparedness and offer support within the community. Please feel free to reach out at EMO@paqtnkek.ca or (902) 600-6211." ... See MoreSee Less

Thank you Chris Pictou for all you do for Paqtnkek! #WaterIsLifeToday is National Indigenous Water Operators Day.
From our friends at www.facebook.com/watermovement.ca:
'Water is life, but for many Indigenous communities, access to clean, safe drinking water is a daily challenge. National Indigenous Water Operator Day (NIWOD) was created to honour the water operators who overcome immense obstacles to ensure their communities have access to this vital resource.
Held every year on March 21 — the day before World Water Day — NIWOD reminds us that before celebrating water, we must first celebrate those who make it safe to drink.'
