Trail crew (2 positions available)
Spend your summer outside helping to maintain Keppoch’s trail network! You will primarily work Monday to Friday, but the occasional weekend day is required. $18 per hour x 35 hours per week.
Programming & Lodge Operations (1 position available)
Support the Keppoch’s programming and events and help welcome members and visitors to our facility! You will work Thursdays to Sunday throughout the summer. $22 per hour x 30 hours per week.
Contribute to Keppoch’s summer ops by welcoming visitors, maintaining the lodge and grounds, and operating the shuttle truck! You will work weekends and some evenings throughout the summer. $18 per hour x 15-20 hours per week.
With our current students currently completing their placements at sea, we wanted to remind you of a couple of upcoming training opportunities! We still have a few seats available in our Marine Foundations – Small Vessel Operator Proficiency program beginning next week and we also have a Marine Foundations – Marine Emergency Duties program planned for July in addition to our Marine Navigation, Marine Engineering and Bridge Watch Rating programs beginning in the fall. As part of this program, you attain SVOP, MED-DVS, MBFA, and ROC-MC certifications. Learn more

Marine Foundations – Marine Emergency Duties July 2024 | Strait Area Campus In this 3-week program, you will learn about personal survival, firefighting and marine emergency response duties associated with survival crafts and rescue boats. Completion of this program prepares you to work as an entry-level crew member or deck hand aboard commercial ships that operate in Canadian and international waters. Learn more.

September 2024 | Strait Area Campus In this 3 year diploma program, you will study the major principles of marine navigation, seamanship, meteorology, ship construction and stability. You then put those theories to work in the on-campus communications and ship simulators and onboard ship during your sea training as you prepare for a career as a ship’s navigation officer. Funding Available
Through the Oceans Protection Plan, Transport Canada has partnered with NSCC to deliver training to underrepresented groups in the marine sector. To encourage diversity at sea, bursaries are available for women and Indigenous peoples who enroll in Marine programs.
Ocean Dream Award This award program has been established to support those who are interested in and have a passion to explore a career in the marine industry. Recognizing the significant financial, social and cultural barriers that women and Indigenous peoples face when pursuing post-secondary education, this bursary will help offset educational costs, ultimately encouraging greater participation in marine training and careers. Funding will cover 90% of tuition fees. Ocean Living Award Indigenous students who receive the Ocean Dream Award are automatically considered for additional funds through the Ocean Living Award. This award assists with living expenses (up to $10,500 or $60/day) while enrolled in a marine program. No application is required.

This position is responsible for a wide variety of clerical office duties in support of both the band operations and commercial enterprises. It also includes coordinating and communicating office activities, greeting and screening visitors, answering and referring to inbound telephone calls and correspondence with a high level of confidentiality. Duties include: ● Present a positive and professional image of the organization to all visitors, suppliers, inquiries and other activities ● Meet and Greet individuals in a friendly and professional manner ● Answer telephone, email and in person inquiries from clients, business partners and other parties and refer to appropriate departments. ● Type forms, letters, reports and memos as necessary ● Log Incoming and Outgoing Mail ● Maintain and organize administration filing system ● Assist management and Directors when necessary ● Maintain the reception area in a tidy and presentable manner. ● General administrative office duties as required Requirements: ● High School diploma or GED, or an acceptable combination of education and experience. ● Strong knowledge of general office procedures ● Able to write simple correspondence, including memos, letters, etc. ● General Mathematical skills ● Adjusts and is flexible to meet changing work needs and demands. ● Knowledge of supplies, equipment and or/services ordering, as well as inventory control of these items. ● Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office products, including Excel, Word and PowerPoint. ● Able to maintain filing systems and basic databases. ● Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills. ● Strong interpersonal skills. ● Strong written and verbal skills to communicate with all levels of the organization and its executive team. ● Strong customer service orientation. ● Uphold confidentiality in a high paced environment.
