Our community is made up of Mi’kmaq people who have lived in this area for thousands of years.
We are a small indigenous community located in Nova Scotia, Canada, near the southern shores of Antigonish Harbour, directly off of highway 104, about 15 minutes from the Town of Antigonish.
Our community is surrounded by beautiful natural landscapes, including forests, lakes, and rivers. We take pride in our culture and traditions, which have been passed down from generation to generation.
Our community is home to a variety of cultural events, including powwows, traditional feasts, and drumming circles. We also have a strong connection to the land, and many of our community members are involved in fishing, hunting, and trapping. Our language, Mi’kmaq, is an integral part of our culture, and we are working to revitalize it among our people.
Despite the challenges that we have faced as an indigenous community, we remain resilient and committed to preserving our way of life. We welcome visitors to our community and encourage everyone to learn more about our culture and traditions.

This year’s camp will focus on Mi’kmaw Language, giving youth the opportunity to learn, create a quill medallion, build cultural and social connections, and strengthen their connection to the land through a meaningful, immersive cultural experience.

🐦🦅Discover more about the migratory shorebirds of Nova Scotia! This includes iconic species like the semipalmated sandpiper and piping plover. The workshop is taking place here at CMN's main office on Tuesday, September 8, 2026, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
🐦🦅 As part of our Making Room for Wetlands project, we will provide a short summary of our completed bird monitoring work. There will be a presentation from our partner, Birds Canada for a presentation on the identification, life history and ecology of these fascinating birds and hands-on activities to strengthen your identification skills. At the end of the workshop, there will be a period for open conversation where everyone can ask questions and share stories.
Food and travel accommodations will be provided.
